Roscoe Roberts appointed new University general counsel

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring appointed Roscoe C. Roberts as legal counsel to the University. Announced Friday, Roberts will succeed Paul Forch, who served as University general counsel from 1996 until his retirement in August. Roberts has worked as the legal counsel for Virginia State University since 2003, and will join the University community in October.

City to construct fence along train tracks

During the summer, the City of Charlottesville announced its plan to construct a fence on the western side of railroad tracks between 14th Street and Rugby Road. The fence was commissioned in 2010 when the City was granted federal funding and was to be completed by the end of the summer, but has since been delayed.

New Cabell renovations complete

After four years of construction, the renovations to New Cabell Hall are nearing completion as students and departments file into the six-story building at the start of the semester. The $64.5 million renovation added state-of-the-art equipment and updated many of the building’s systems.

BOV member Goodwin appointed Gillespie campaign co-chair

University of Virginia Board of Visitors member William H. Goodwin Jr. was appointed as a finance committee co-chair for Ed Gillespie’s senatorial campaign Wednesday. Gillespie, a communications consultant and former White House aide, is the likely Republican nominee for the Virginia seat in the Senate currently filled by Sen. Mark Warner.


	Chart shows revenue increase from out-of-state students. This does not include changes to AccessUVa or differential tuition for any undergraduate student. These calculations reflect the tuition increase’s impact if it occurred this year.

Administrators, student leaders discuss tuition increase

University officials and student leaders met Friday to discuss implications of the proposed tuition hike for the 2014-15 academic year. The budget, which puts forth a 4.3 and 5.9 percent increase in overall tuition and fees for in-state and out-of-state undergraduate students, respectively, will be put to vote at this coming Wednesday’s Board of Visitor’s meeting.

Gillespie raises $2.2 million during first quarter

Ed Gillespie, the likely Republican nominee for the Senate in Virginia, recently announced his campaign raised $2.2 million in fundraising in the first quarter. In addition, three out of five donations made to the Gillespie campaign were from Virginians and donations came from a wide variety of areas including 89 different counties across the state.
