Kimble, Waters, Munukutla win UJC race

The University Board of Elections announced the results of this year’s student body elections Friday evening at Jefferson Hall, including an uncontested College Judiciary Committee election and several more hotly-contested class- and school-specific races.

Ross, Miller, West win Student Council races

The University Board of Elections released the election results for next year’s Student Council President, Vice-President for Organization and Vice-President of Administration on Friday evening in Jefferson Hall. Third-year Engineering Student Jalen Ross, second-year College student Kyle West and third-year College student Sky Miller won the three positions, respectively.

College elects new Honor Committee representatives

The newly-elected members of the Honor Committee were announced Friday evening in Jefferson Hall — third-year College students Nick Lee, Nick Hine, Meg Gould and Henley Hopkinson joined second-year Martese Johnson as the College’s five representatives.

Kester to co-direct nanoSTAR

Dr. Mark Kester will co-direct the University’s Institute for Nanoscale and Quantum Scientific and Technological Advanced Research, the University announced last week. The institute, nicknamed nanoSTAR, uses both graduate and undergraduate students and provides opportunities for cross-school collaboration for University researchers.

AMBER alert goes off on Grounds

An AMBER Alert reached students across Grounds last Wednesday, Feb. 19, as part of an effort to recover five-year-old Amiyah Monet Dallas. She was found alive later that day.

McAuliffe signs hybrid tax repeal

Gov. Terry McAuliffe signed into law last week a repeal of the $64 tax on hybrid cars in Virginia, first enacted last year. McAuliffe repealed the bill during an appearance on WTOP radio’s “Ask the Governor” program. The revised mandate will go into effect July 1, 2014 and affect approximately 75,000 hybrid vehicle owners in the state.


	After missing last year’s win against then-No. 3 Duke, sophomore forward Malcolm Brogdon reveled in the national spotlight, scoring a game and career-high 19 points.

Cavaliers juice No. 4 Orange, 75-56

The Cavaliers won their 13th consecutive game to clinch their sixth outright regular season ACC title — their first since the 1980-1981 season — and secure the top seed in the ACC Tournament.

University to further develop Morven Farm

The University is currently working to further develop Morven Farms, a 2,913 acre University-owned property just south of Monticello and Ash Lawn-Highland, and will partner with architectural firm Hart Howerton to explore opportunities for continued growth and improving present initiatives at the farm.

Contested races draw higher voter turnout

Last year’s student body elections, which culminated in the passing of an amendment to the Honor Committee’s constitution, saw a turnout rate of 50.27 percent, up from the 40.53 percent rate in Spring 2013. University Board of Election Results tomorrow will show whether students broke this low turnout trend.

MRC finishes recruitment, begins interviews

The Minority Rights Coalition ended its recruitment process for members of new committees earlier this month and is now having interviews for the potential members. The new committees will help the broader organization provide services to the student body.


	Senior forward Akil Mitchell will take the floor at John Paul Jones Arena for the final time Saturday, as the No. 12 Cavaliers host No. 4 Syracuse with a shot at clinching the ACC regular season title.

Moment of truth

On a night when the No. 12 Virginia men’s basketball team made the Hurricanes’ play resemble a brisk wind, picking up its 12th consecutive victory and program-record 15th ACC win, the story wasn’t about the Cavaliers’ 65-40 decimation of Miami.

Students re-establish Queer & Allied Activism

Queer & Allied Activism was re-established at the University Tuesday evening. More than 20 individuals — including two University staff members — convened in the University’s LGBTQ Center for the first meeting since the activist organization dissolved last spring.
