Steady rain forced Cavalier track and field athletes into University Hall Tuesday where they continued practicing. Runners warmed up in the underground tunnels, while jumpers and throwers assembled in a vaulted space known as “The Cage,” training for the important home meet, the Virginia Challenge, only three days out.
“That 16-pound ball seems weightless when I’m spinning it around and when the wire leaves my hands,” Young said. “A good hammer throw is such a satisfying feeling. That ball goes a long way, and it’s kind of effortless.”
Virginia track and field made another stride forward Friday and Saturday in California.
Nine Cavalier track and field athletes competed at the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond on Friday. This Virginia unit was comprised of five freshmen, three sophomores, and one junior.
