Council wishes to empower

Throughout the fall semester, Student Council developed a number of initiatives and projects seeking to improve the University community, and Council aims to continue such efforts next year.

Darden students sweep M.B.A. contest

The Darden School proved successful at the sixth annual Innovation Challenge, where two student teams swept all three possible awards, including one worth $20,000.The Innovation Challenge is the world?s largest innovation competition available to M.B.A.

Council begins Free Ride program

Last night Student Council?s Safety & Wellness Committee formally announced the creation of the Free Ride program, which provides students with free taxi cab service seven days of the week between midnight and 4 a.m.

University students to begin art program in county schools

Student Council?s Student Arts Committee recently announced the creation of the Arts Education Program, through which committee members and other interested University student volunteers will teach Albemarle County elementary and middle school students about art.This effort, Committee Chair Jenny Smith said, seeks to supplement both art education and education on a broader level.?The arts are enriching to education generally,? Smith said.

Sustainable house put to University student vote

Student Council?s Environmental Sustainability Committee is asking students for feedback on an initiative to create a sustainable University housing option for 10 to 20 students through a referendum that appears on the University Board Elections Web site.

Council supports student garden

Last night Student Council passed a resolution supporting the creation of the Community Garden Project, a project proposed by the Environmental Sustainability Committee that aims to create a sustainable on-Grounds garden during the spring semester.

Advising program unveiled

Student Council?s Academic Affairs Committee recently announced the creation of the Major Advising Program, which will provide another source of information for University students seeking to learn about and make choices in regards to the many majors and courses available to them at the University.?One of the goals of this program is to allow first-year and transfer students to have a certain level of comfort at U.Va.
