On March 16, 2020, a Charlottesville resident tested positive for the novel coronavirus. It was the first confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in the piedmont region.
The zero new cases in students or faculty and staff over the weekend followed a total of 31 new cases between Feb. 13 and Saturday.
Hospitalization rates have remained relatively constant over the last two weeks — the seven-day average for new hospitalizations was 12.14 on Feb. 23 and was 11.71 as of Thursday.
