NCAA hopes hinge on win this weekend

While many University students will spend this Saturday at the Foxfield Races, the men's golf team will be making a last effort to qualify for the NCAA Regional Tournament. The Cavaliers' chance at qualification will come at the only University-hosted golf tournament this season, the 21st annual Cavalier Classic. Freshman Will Collins said the team will have to win the classic in order to qualify for the NCAA Regional Tournament. "Right now, it is the biggest piece," Collins said.

Crew washes away visitors at Lake Monticello regatta

The Virginia women's rowing team, currently No. 3 in the nation, hosted a regatta for five other teams this past weekend at Lake Monticello, winning eight of the nine varsity races. The regatta, which included races Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, was a triple duel, coach Kevin Sauer said, as the Cavaliers raced teams from Michigan State, Wisconsin and Oregon State. While all boats factor into the success of the team, Sauer cited the performance in the varsity races as a good indicator of the team's ability. "It is about what you do against the other schools' varsity boats," he said.

Green with envy?

The term penis envy, coined by the father of modern psychology Sigmund Freud, may seem self-explanatory, but, often people are unaware of its full meaning. First-year College student Becca Jackson, for example, said when she heard the term, she thought it had to do solely with men. "I think it has to do with guys and feeling adequate with respect to their own penises and to other guys," Jackson said. In reality, however, penis envy is a theory that Czech Austrian psychologist Freud developed about both genders in the modern world.

Harrison earns elite status as All-American

It was the last indoor track and field meet of senior Emily Harrison's college running career. As she crossed the finish line of her 5K event at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend, Harrison said, she did not know right away how she had performed. "I was not 100 percent sure what place I was," Harrison said.

A Student's Right to Register

Though the most recent local election was only a week ago, the Center for Politics and local officials are already urging students to participate in the 2008 presidential and state elections through a provision that allows University students to register to vote locally rather than in their hometowns.
