Women's Lacrosse: Seniors lead Virginia to victory over Hoyas

It may have been raining, but that did not stop the Class of 2007 from shining as the Virginia women's lacrosse team defeated Georgetown last night 14-7 at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers got off to a fast start, scoring in the second minute and never looking back as they held the lead for the entire game.

Cavaliers eke out win against S. Florida

Both Virginia's and South Florida's women's basketball teams knew last night's third-round WNIT game would depend on the play of Bull senior forward Jessica Dickson, a Kodak all-American.

Virginia ready to do battle with Bulls

After a dramatic victory over Charlotte, the Virginia women's basketball team will look to extend its season tonight against South Florida in the third round of the WNIT tournament at John Paul Jones Arena. To win however, the Cavaliers will need to demonstrate a better defensive performance than they did last Monday.

Littles hits game winner to give Cavs two-point win

Sophomore forward Lyndra Littles may have been suffering from a stomach virus, but it was the Charlotte 49ers who were left feeling sick last night as Littles connected on a jumper right under the basket with four seconds left to give the Virginia women's basketball team a dramatic 74-72 victory in the second round of the WNIT tournament. With the game's fate hanging in the balance, it was not Virginia coach Debbie Ryan but junior guard Sharneé Zoll who picked the play that would give Virginia it's 18th victory of the season. "I'm not going to brag," Zoll said.

Cavaliers prep for late season run in WNIT

The Virginia women's basketball team will begin its quest for a postseason title when it takes on Charlotte in the second round of the WNIT tonight at John Paul Jones Arena. The Cavaliers received a first-round bye after going 17-14 in the regular season.

It has been a long season for the Virginia women's basketball team. The Cavaliers have been forced to deal with suspended players, close losses and sporadic injuries to some of the team's best interior players. Virginia will try to extend its season a little bit longer, however, as the Cavaliers head to Greensboro, N.C.

Cavs refuse to give up hope

The Virginia women's basketball team will take to the road tonight with the hope of not returning to John Paul Jones Arena, the site of this year's Women's National Invitation Tournament, this season. "Two teams from our conference went to the NCAA tournament with 6-8 [ACC] records last year," Virginia coach Debbie Ryan said.

Cavs fall to FSU in nail-biter

It appeared to be déjà vu all over again for the Virginia women's basketball team yesterday afternoon. Just like in their previous meeting, the Cavaliers led at the half only to be subject to a big Florida State run to open up the second half. Unlike their 16-point loss in Tallahassee, Virginia fought back but ultimately fell to the Seminoles 79-77. The game resembled a boxing match -- each time Virginia would hit a shot to take the lead, the Seminoles would respond with one of their own.
