Studies reveal M.B.A. cheating trend

Business school students may be more likely to cheat than students from any other academic discipline, according to research conducted by Donald McCabe, a management and global business professor at Rutgers University Business School.

Study shows medical students more likely to suffer from depression

A significantly higher percentage of medical students suffer from depression than most young adults, the Journal of the Association of American Medical Colleges reported in the February edition of Academic Medicine.The study, titled ?Depressive Symptoms in Medical Students and Residents: A Multischool Study,? showed that 21.2 percent of medical students suffer from depression, while only eight to 15 percent of the general young adult population is affected.Kimberly Ephgrave, a University of Iowa surgery professor and a contributor to the study, said she was not surprised by the results.

Seven Society presents gift to students at football game

During halftime of Saturday?s football game between Virginia and Clemson, the Seven Society delivered a $14,777.77 gift to the University community.With the U2 classic ?Beautiful Day? blaring from the loudspeakers, a man in a black cape parachuted onto the football field and presented the check to the University.

University researches cost-efficient social services

University economics professors and students are collaborating with the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County in an effort to make social services more cost-efficient and effective.The project focuses on the Charlottesville/Albemarle Commission on Children and Families, an agency charged with managing the Comprehensive Services Act, Commission Director Gretchen Ellis said.?The Comprehensive Services Act is a state-wide program that provides funding for kids that need foster care, are at-risk, or have special-[education] needs that can?t be met in public schools,? Ellis said.

U.Va. professors design carbon emission auction

Two University professors were part of a team of researchers selected to design a carbon emissions auction on behalf of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, an organization composed of 10 Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states committed to limiting the amount of carbon emissions from the power sector.
