Losing Gonzo

It was a dull shock. Losing someone close to you is always hard to bear, but when you lose an icon, a celebrity, someone you never actually have met, the feeling is a little weird. As the headlines reported last Monday, Hunter S.

The needful twitch

I'm not exactly sure how it started, but I absolutely cannot live without caffeine. As exciting as discussion sections are, I start to pull the head bob if I don't have a fix of some kind.

In need of a pillow

Time is the only difference since my schedule ends at different times each day of the week. But everyday the ritual is the same: come home from class and fall on my bed.

Ribbons and trashcans

As everyone is quite aware, the University is full of societies, clubs and other ritualistic organizations that are unique to our institution.

Finding a 'Halo'

I'm starting to wonder why I've had The Shins' "Chutes Too Narrow" in my CD player for the past year.

Waiting for Halloween

It's a constant attempt at balance. An attempt usually followed immediately by a failure to maintain that balance.

Fishing in a book

The seasons roll on. The color of the leaves changes and everyone gets excited about how pretty fall is.

Optimism

Struggling through the crowds on the way to class, you try to push through a sea of people who want nothing more than to accomplish the same goal.

Manic Hysteria

There is an underlying humor hiding beneath the mundane excitement of returning to school. The mental shock of trying to remember all the names you should know and a necessary effort to learn new ones, stemming not from social interest, but more directly from social requirement.

The Prosaic Mundane

There are no cigarette breaks at U.Va., but working in an office makes me want to start smoking. True, I find cigarettes pretty disgusting (even though I will have one from time to time as my drinking dictates), but the idea of going outside to "take a break" from a job not requiring much stress in the first place sounds quite agreeable.
