Late-night shifts

While most students are hanging out in their apartments, studying in Alderman, or out on the Corner into the early hours of the morning, there are a number of students working the late-night shifts of their jobs. Second-year College student Elissa Trieu initially began volunteering as an emergency medical technician for the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad to gain experience, as she hopes to enter the medical field.

Although these teams often fly below the radar, the sport is starting to gain a devoted fan base at the University. Founded in the early 1950s, the University's polo team is unique in more than one way.

A device many Americans have in their homes may soon be able to perform life-saving surgeries. For years scientists and engineers have attempted to use gaming technology to create human-controlled robots capable of performing delicate procedures that elude clumsy human hands.
