What happened that Saturday contradicts what I want the University to be
I first became aware of the fact that I was both smart as well as pretty when I was six years old
The battle for queer rights was fought by those who could not afford to stay in hiding: the trans, the poor and people of color.
My solution? Create a system of standards by which men’s bodies are as intensely imposed upon as women’s.
During this first week in Lyon I have learned that universal good and universal evil are concentrated into two avatars: for goodness, a French translation of Virginia Woolf’s masterpiece, “Mrs. Dalloway”; for evil, a suave Norwegian teen named Cedric.
It is obvious that a mass exodus from U.Va. is an issue of safety for minority groups. But in addition to providing safety, my proposal has the power to change the very structure of U.Va.
And it’s fine to be sad on Valentine’s Day. If you joke that you’re just gonna eat pizza and chocolate and watch Netflix, then absolutely do those things. That sounds awesome. Who wants some dude poking you with his boner halfway through “The Pelican Brief?” Not me. Take a night off.
When people advocate for cultural shifts instead of changes in policy (or, worse, instead of punishing the guilty) they exchange action for concept, and through inaction, feed the culture they intend to kill.
Imagine a hellscape in which the rigid borders of open suitcases lie like vipers under a quilt of laundry.
