While never crossing the line, Sedaris masterfully led the audience up to the edge of compassion and comfort with an intimate reading of four essays.
The gift comes from David and Jane Walentas of New York. David Walentas is a graduate of the College and Darden school in the class of 1961 and 1964 respectively.
The fundraising campaign publicly launched this weekend with a schedule of events open to the public.
"This process is better than outside recommendation letters," according to an email Jenkins sent. "I can ask the student for an interview, but more importantly we should put her on our watch list," he said in another.
A male student said he was followed by an unknown male on his way home from the Corner at 3 a.m., and was assaulted at the area of Jefferson Park Avenue and Brandon Ave.
The changes will go into effect with the start of the 2019 season as Virginia plays William and Mary at home Sept. 6.
“I see a community that opens wide the door to opportunity for first-generation, low- and middle-income students,” University President Jim Ryan said while outlining the policy.
The Aug. 25 concert will be free for students.
Metal detectors and crowd size limits will be among the security measures imposed Saturday night on a planned demonstration by student activism group U.Va. Students United at the North Plaza of the Rotunda.
