$100 million well-spent

Alumnus Frank Batten recently gave a $100 million donation to our fine University to establish a school of "leadership and public policy." Let me be the first to say... we don't want a school of leadership and public policy.

Fair weather fever

It's that time of year again -- no, not the time of year when you realize that you're too white to even start tanning on the Lawn (well, it is, and you should probably hit up the tanning bed a couple of times to pre-fry). It's actually that time of year when sports are in full effect.

Dear That Guy/That Girl

I see you walking around Grounds all the time, off in your own little world, oblivious to the dominant social norms and conventional definitions of the word "normal." Good for you!

An open application for a Lawn room

I've applied for a Lawn room every year at this University, and every year my efforts to procure myself a spot of immortal glory have been rebuffed by a Lawn committee grown fat with self-importance.

The politeness war

I consider myself a pretty polite guy. I say "bless you" when people sneeze, I hold the door open for those with whom I am sharing a doorway and I always at least nod my head in recognition when I make eye contact with someone, despite their stranger status. You might even fancy yourself as a polite person too.

Rocket science isn't exactly rocket science

I'm sure you've had something explained to you at one point in your life that was followed by the phrase, "It's not rocket science." The implication was that whatever task you were being asked to perform or understand was simple and uncomplicated since rocket science represents the pinnacle of complicated-ness. After doing a little research, I discovered this term surfaced in the Han Dynasty in China between 206-220 AD.

Profiles profiled

As a good college student, I spend a decent amount of time signed on Instant Messenger, whether I'm there or not.
