Hopes for return visit to C-ville
By Joey Mancini | April 25, 2007Over the last few weeks, I've called Matt Schaub about 11 times. The major media outlets have been contacting him to discuss his new gig as the starting quarterback in Houston.

I was asked yesterday morning to write about the tragic events that took place in Blacksburg Monday.
When I was in elementary school, there was a banner in my classroom that read, "What is right is not always popular; what is popular is not always right." There have been several situations in sports and media in recent weeks, however, in which the popular reaction to an action was appropriate and well-warranted.
Monday was an important day for me. At this point, life isn't really full of many new beginnings, so I live vicariously through sports.
A friend of mine somewhat sarcastically said the other day that he liked how I "had essentially become the college basketball columnist" for The Cavalier Daily.
Remember Virginia's losses in Puerto Rico? Nope, not me. For the most part since December, fans have wiped those games clean from collective memory.
Writing this column was the last thing that I needed to do before my Spring Break could begin. Now that it is in print, I guess that I am free sailing (falling?) toward a Friday morning arrival in Punta Cana, which is located in the Dominican Republic.
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine approached J.R. Reynolds at Jaberwoke and told him that she thought he was a "wuss." Reynolds had been struggling with leg cramps in consecutive games, most notably in possessions that gave the opposing team a four-on-five break in transition that led to a three pointer each time. "You should drink more Gatorade," she said.
I'm not an advocate of the theory that sports are of great consequence to very much in the world.
It was initially reported by the Tidewater-area Daily Press last Friday, with further reporting by the Charlottesville Daily Progress yesterday, that current Virginia defensive coordinator Mike London has interviewed with Old Dominion University officials about their head football coaching job. In 2009, after the matriculation of two recruiting classes, Old Dominion University will begin play on the gridiron.
