FCC to fund U.Va. telemedicine

The Federal Communications Commission has offered the University Health System funding to improve the University's telemedicine program as part of a pilot program to expand and enhance health care in rural communities. Telemedicine seeks to use broadband Internet technology to allow hospitals and health care centers throughout the Commonwealth and beyond to communicate with one another, according to Karen Rheuban, medical director of the University's Office of Telemedicine.

Clemons construction to improve outdoor study space, repair roof

Although construction on Clemons Library is expected to restore the third-floor roof and improve study space in the plaza adjacent to the library's entrance, students have expressed mixed reactions to the project. The project, which began during Homecomings weekend, will include "replacing the roof membrane to secure the room below the terrace from any leaks," according to University Landscape Architect Mary Hughes.

County eases water limits

The Albemarle County Service Authority has adjusted drought restrictions to allow more water usage under certain conditions and reduce the financial stress on companies depending on this use, according to Gary Fern, executive director of the Albemarle County service authority.
