Virginia set for Spiders

With the ACC baseball tournament less than one month away, the No. 13 Virginia Cavaliers (34-10, 13-8 ACC) are well on their way to orchestrating one of the most successful seasons in recent program history.

Keydets no match for powerful Cavs

On the strength of senior Tom Hagan's bat and freshman Andrew Carraway's arm, the No. 17 Cavaliers (32-9) routed the visiting VMI Keydets 5-0 last night at Davenport Field. The Virginia offense came out firing on all cylinders in the early going, notching five hits, five walks and all five of the game's runs in the first three innings of play. The Cavalier scoring began in the bottom of the first, when two early walks were followed up by an RBI single by Brandon Guyer and a two-RBI double down the right-field line from Hagan.

Virginia begins five-game homestand against Lancers

After capping off a grueling stretch of seven straight road games with a pair of wins in Durham this past weekend, the Virginia men's baseball team returns home this evening to face the visiting Longwood Lancers at Davenport Field. During the extended road trip, the No.

Virginia puts winning streak on line against Herd

After sweeping three straight games from No. 2 Clemson this weekend, the Virginia men's baseball team continues its 10-game home-stand this afternoon when it hosts the Marshall Thundering Herd (8-7) at Davenport Field. Though not on the team's original schedule, today's contest was added earlier this week to make up for last night's postponed matchup with Liberty, which was called off because of inclement weather. The No.

Virginia rebounds against Colonials

After playing 17 innings on Sunday in a loss to the College of Charleston, the Virginia Cavaliers (8-3) appeared to be no worse for the wear, cruising easily to an 11-5 victory over the visiting George Washington Colonials (1-4) last night at Davenport Field. The scoring began in the second inning, when freshman third baseman Jeremy Farrell, who missed Sunday's game due to intense back pain, smoked an outside fastball into the right field corner for an RBI triple. "I talked to [Farrell] right before that at-bat," coach Brian O'Connor said.

Cavs bring home eighth straight title

When Virginia's Ethan McCoy dove into the pool for the anchor leg of the 400-yard medley relay at this weekend's ACC Men's Swim and Dive Championships, few expected the senior freestyle sprinter to be in position to dethrone a dangerous Seminole relay squad. In the team standings at the time, Florida State still enjoyed a significant advantage, and the final event of the second-to-last day of competition was not one in which Virginia was expected to make up much ground. Yet, after three impressive splits from juniors Vanja Rogulj and Stefan Hirniak and sophomore Bryan Stahl, McCoy found himself making the final turn of the race with a slight edge over Florida State's Alex Kennan.

Cavs puts ACCs behind, turns toward NCAAs

After suffering a shocking upset loss to Clemson in the first round of last week's ACC Tournament, the Virginia's men's soccer team may be down, but it is by no means out. Instead of dwelling on last Wednesday's disappointing result, the Cavaliers are taking full advantage of the unexpected time off before the start of next week's NCAA Tournament. "It might be a blessing in disguise that we lost," junior forward Adam Cristman said.

Cavs face 'Noles in semifinals

Though it may be entering tonight's ACC semifinal match against No. 6 Florida State as the conference tournament's defending champion, the Virginia women's soccer team is not about to take anything for granted. After staving off Wake Forest 2-1 Wednesday night, the No.

Virginia rests up to prepare for post-season

With the ACC Tournament looming just 10 days away, the No. 5 Virginia men's soccer team is making preparations for what it hopes will be a postseason run to remember. Instead of adding extra meetings, practices and matches to the schedule, however, Virginia coach George Gelnovatch has elected to give his players a few days of well-deserved rest before Saturday's game against No.
