Charges leveled against four students who caused a scare while using a BB gun as they filmed a class project around Wilsdorf Hall in April have been dropped pending completion of community service and repayment of incurred costs. The incident occurred April 23, coming one week after the Virginia Tech shootings.
Members of the University community have been recruited by Gov. Tim Kaine to serve on an investigative panel aimed at examining the response to conditions surrounding the Virginia Tech shootings. Last Friday, the governor appointed Medical School Assistant Dean Marcus Martin and Diane Strickland, Law School alumna and former dean of Student Legal Services, to the panel.Martin and Strickland are joining what will be an eight-member commission led by former Virginia State Police Superintendent Gerald Massengill. The panel will examine the particular circumstances before, during and after the events on the Tech campus last Monday, said Kevin Hall, press secretary for Gov.

The Law School recently named Musictoday Executive Vice President Jim Kingdon director of its Law & Business Program, which was launched in 2003 to prepare law students for advising corporate clients. Kingdon received both his JD and MBA degrees from the University program in 1998, a fact which members of the search committee saw as beneficial. "We thought it was very valuable that Jim has both a JD and MBA and that he has significant managerial experience," said Law Prof.
University students have been victims of two attempted mass identification thefts since January, one through the University e-mail system and another through dorm phones. The most recent scam involved students receiving calls on their dorm phones.
The Prescription Project, a joint effort between Columbia University's Institute on Medicine as a Profession and the grassroots organization Community Catalyst, launched a campaign Monday calling on medical schools to end interactions with pharmaceutical companies that could result in conflicts of interest, said Susan Chimonas, co-director of research at the Prescription Project.
