The contradictory consensus clause

IT'S A testament to how awful the consensus clause is that despite numerous columns, editorials and letters that have appeared on these very pages, I was still able to hammer out an entire column with still more arguments against the consensus clause.

Thanks for the hate mail

I WANTED more hate mail. As a lowly first-year Opinion columnist, I never felt I got my fair share of e-mails that ended with an expletive or an insult toward my mother.

Bush's fear factor

AS THE pundits analyze who "won" the vice-presidential debate by looking at who sighed the fewest number of times, a deep undercurrent is running through liberal America.

The University's greatest lesson

I AM A RACIST. In two years, four semesters and countless hours of studying anything from the laws of supply and demand to Greek and Roman warfare, I came to this shocking -- and invaluable -- epiphany. As a proponent of affirmative action, a die-hard liberal, a member of Sustained Dialogue (a group dedicated to an open discussion of race) and even a member of the Mahogany Dance Troupe, making an accusation against myself that is normally reserved for men like David Duke and Strom Thurmond seems shocking.

Liberal and proud

Along with accusations from late-night talk shows that John Kerry feasts on the living, the Bush attack machine has begun more substantive attacks on the Democratic candidate.

Kerry can carry

FAIRFAX -- Winning an impressive majority yesterday in the Virginia primary, as well as a strong showing in Tennessee, the John Kerry cruiser is all but certain to have a successful return voyage to Boston for the Democratic convention.

Dean's noble sacrifice

AS IOWA demonstrated, Dr. Dean may have been too bitter a pill for most Americans to swallow. His mediocre showing in Iowa, a full 20 points behind John Kerry, has certainly slowed the pre-primary favorite down.

The myth of the modern media

MY FAVORITE bumper sticker on my car reads like this: "The media is only as liberal as the conservative businesses that own them." Some would complain that it's too verbose for a bumper sticker, but I would argue the point is so significant it warrants breaking from the traditional epigram format.
