City revs up winter road safety

This winter season, the City of Charlottesville has put in place several new measures that officials hope will help make the roads more drivable during periods of inclement weather. These efforts were put to the test last Thursday when the area received three to four inches of snow, prompting the University to cancel all classes after 4 p.m., the first time classes had been canceled since 2003.

U.Va. issues spring COD

While Friday marked the release of the spring 2008 Course Offering Directory for University students, the date also marked the culmination of months of planning on departmental and University levels.

Jeff ScholarFoundation seeks $21M

The Jefferson Scholars Foundation is seeking approval for a $21 million loan to fund the construction of its new headquarters. Although the Jefferson Scholars Foundation applied for and received an $18 million loan in June of this year, it recently announced its intention to apply for an additional amount of up to $3 million, making the loan total $21 million.

U.Va. installs new heart defibrillators

Twenty new heart defibrillators were installed around Grounds last week in an effort to provide rapid responses to sudden cardiac arrests. "Sudden cardiac death is a very significant public problem," said Dr. William Brady, associate professor of pediatric medicine.
