There is a standard formula for excellent superheroes: They don't have much of a family; horrible events have taken place in their lives; and frustration with the state of the world causes them to take matters into their own hands. The Brave One, directed by Neil Jordan, follows this tried-and-true superhero formula but with a grittier, real-world edge.
Reign Over Me, a movie directed by Mike Binder, is the story of Charlie Fineman (Adam Sandler), a man who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder brought on by the death of his family in the Sept.
The Number 23, directed by Joel Schumacher, is a story about one man's obsession with a number. Jim Carrey plays Walter Sparrow, an animal control officer whose life is turned upside down when his wife buys him a book for his birthday called "The Number 23." Soon Sparrow becomes obsessed with the book and finds connections between himself and the main character, named Fingerling.
If there is some role that Russell Crowe is bad at, then it has yet to be realized. The 42-year-old actor, best known for playing dashing heroes or schizophrenic geniuses, has just proven that he can play the charming business man as well.
