My wish is that the duty of student and professional journalists is not lost in the appeal of organizational prowess.
Though The Cavalier Daily has followed this story with steady coverage, I’m left wanting something more.
We should find, ideally, a middle ground that will truly bring into question the image of Mr. Jefferson that we choose to maintain — for ourselves, and for the University as a whole.
It’s telling that an organization like The Cavalier Daily, in physical or cyber format, acts as a medium that stimulates discourse about such social issues.
The Cavalier Daily provided a well-researched, lengthy story in order to inform readers of what was occurring during the course of the week.
With this new readership forming on Grounds this week, I call upon The Cavalier Daily to merely remember the place it can occupy within it.
The publication, along with similar groups here, has an opportunity to engage with greater Charlottesville and pop whatever bubble that may close this University off from it.
Should there be accountability when it comes to what should be disclosed and what shouldn’t?
If The Cavalier Daily can expand the number of outside voices, then issues can be examined from a wider spectrum.
Papers like The Cavalier Daily should do their utmost not to take sides in elections and political events.
