'After We Go' proves band's legitimacy, talent

Your debut album just conquered rock radio like it was France, and you're being hailed as the next "Next Big Thing." You swim daily through a giant pool of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck.Your band has just set the bar for as seemingly paradoxical a genre as acoustic metal.

Dave Grohl's newest project successful

It slices! It dices! It makes french fries three different ways! OK, I was just kidding about the french fries. And the slicing and dicing. But seriously, folks, it's starting to seem like Dave Grohl is a rock and roll Swiss Army Knife, the sort of miracle worker over which the late night infomercial crew would go totally wild.

Wish you were there: Incubus thrive live

So, you've made yourself into a rock star. Your high school garage band has hit it big, laying claim to innumerable fans across the globe and being heralded by a few of the more adventurous critics as the probable future of rock.

Lucky 'Thirteen': Keenan bolsters potence

Having lost angelic bassist Paz Lenchantin to the now-dismantled ranks of Zwan and ever-so-slightly less angelic guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen to the Queens of the Stone Age during what was probably one of the most turbulent eras of musical cross-pollination in the history of rock, the future of A Perfect Circle was thrown temporarily into disarray.

Mild 'Thing': Mayer aims to strengthen sound but loses flair

Well, would ya look at that? John Mayer's new record is titled "Heavier Things." Anyone who has compared the re-recorded songs on "Room For Squares" to the originals on the "Inside Wants Out" EP or heard the opening bars of "Any Given Thursday" knows where this is heading -- Mayer has progressively been fattening up his sound since his first release, and the cover art featuring him tangled up in a well worn Stratocaster, dietary staple of Rock and Roll that it is, hinted that an even edgier set list might have been in the works. It's hard to tell whether he's making good on the promise that the title suggests, though.
