The study determined the initial steps of HIV infection in cells — information that can be applied to understanding the infection process of other viruses including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that leads to COVID-19 infection.
Participants of the study include service members who experienced repetitive low-level exposure — meaning who were repeatedly in close proximity to an explosive during detonation — that may lead to manifestation of issues within the brain over time.
